AFA® Amino Acid Skin Care has unique, advanced characteristics that make it ideal to complement any professional dermal procedure. By eliminating, or minimizing the irritation and the dryness associated with older cosmeceutical technologies, the AFA® program easily combines with other aesthetic procedures (lasers, IPL, RF, microdermabrasion, injectables, etc.) to accelerate and enhance patient results without compromising patient compliance. The AFA® program can supplement and enhance treatment results from most aesthetic procedures helping patients achieve their rejuvenation goals faster than with the procedure alone. The AFA® Program is also an ideal way for patients to preserve and enhance the investment they have made in improving the health and beauty of their skin through these procedures.

AFA® Protocol for IPL Treatment

The AFA Daily Rejuvenation Program can accelerate and enhance the results of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments, especially those directed at problematic pigmentation from sun damage. Because of AFA's powerful exfoliation, the results of the IPL treatments appear faster. And because AFA has remarkably low irritation it will enhance the patient’s results.

The AFA program minimizes some of the drawbacks seen between treatments of an IPL series such as temporarily darkened pigmentation or “pepper flaking.”  While these side effects will resolve on their own, use of the AFA Daily Skin Care can help accelerate the resolution and increase patient satisfaction. In addition, the AFA Peels and Daily Rejuvenation products will not negatively impact positive results for IPL treatment of telangectasia the way the vacuum of microdermabrasion might.

While other treatments may provide variable results when applied to patients of similar skin types, AFA will provide more consistent results for patients by providing a more exfoliated and uniform skin surface.

AFA Exfoliating Gel should be discontinued 24 hours prior to and after IPL treatments. Patients should continue their AFA cleansing and moisturizing routine.

The AFA Advanced Treatment Body Lotion is ideal for use between IPL body treatments to help increase the exfoliation of the skin and enhance the results of the IPL treatments. AFA will provide more consistent results.

AFA Professional peels can be implemented for IPL patients to help maintain optimal results between treatments. Assuming IPL treatment is spaced at least 2 weeks apart, the patient should be scheduled for the appropriate peel no sooner than 5–7 days after IPL treatment. Before any AFA peel is applied, patients should be evaluated to ensure there is no significant residual erythema from previous IPL treatment.

AFA® Protocol for Radio Frequency Treatment

Patients who undergo Radio Frequency (RF) treatments are seeking tighter, wrinkle-free, younger-looking skin. While RF treatments target deeper, dermal wrinkling, AFA complements that by improving the skin's surface appearance, helping patients look and feel younger and healthier, thereby accelerating the visible results of the RF treatment.

AFA provides powerful exfoliation, leaving patients with softer, more radiant skin than they would see with RF Treatment alone. AFA will not irritate patient's skin like other, more outdated technologies. AFA will not in any way increase the discomfort often associated with RF Treatments. By using AFA instead of other exfoliants, downtime will be minimized. AFA and RF in combination will leave patients with radiant, tighter looking skin.

Patients should follow their normal AFA Daily Rejuvenation regimen. However, AFA Exfoliating Gels should be discontinued 24 hours prior to RF treatment.

After RF treatment, some patients may experience mild erythema (1–3 days). During this time the AFA Cream Cleanser and AFA Moisturizers can still be used. However, patients should refrain from using the AFA Exfoliating Gel until the erythema subsides (~1- 3 days). Typically patients can begin using their AFA Exfoliating Gel 48 hours after RF treatment.

AFA Professional peels can be implemented for RF patients to help maintain optimal results between treatments. However, peels should not be applied less than one week before or after, any RF treatment.

AFA® Protocol for Microdermabrasion Treatment

The AFA Daily Skin Rejuvenation program enhances and accelerates patient results with microdermabrasion without compromising compliance the way that outdated, more irritating choices might. This is an important feature as microdermabrasion can easily make skin susceptible to irritation, depending on the level of microdermabrasion treatment. AFA provides powerful exfoliation with minimal irritation leaving patients with softer, younger looking skin than with microdermabrasion alone.

In some cases, patients with pigmentary problems have experienced better results in dermal rejuvenation by alternating microdermabrasion with AFA superficial peels, versus microdermabrasion alone. Continued use of the AFA program upon completion of microdermabrasion treatments will help to maintain the results achieved from the procedure much longer.

Patients should continue to follow their normal Daily Rejuvenation regimen. However, they should discontinue use of their AFA Exfoliating Gel 24 hours prior to, and after Microdermabrasion treatment. For the 24 hours following Microdermabrasion, use of the AFA Toner-Mist can help soothe and calm sensitized skin.

AFA Professional peels can be implemented for Microdermabrasion patients to optimize results for photo-pigmentation. Initially AFA peels should not be applied less than 2 weeks before or after Microdermabrasion treatment. Once the patient’s skin has adjusted to the procedure, peel treatments may be scheduled closer together based on patient tolerance.

AFA® Protocol for Fractional Laser Treatments

Fractional Laser is an extraordinarily effective treatment option for rejuvenating both the epidermis and dermis. Initially, many offices thought this treatment option could replace chemical peels and at-home exfoliation treatments, but it was soon discovered that chemical exfoliation and stimulation work synergistically with Fractional Lasers, enhancing the results. With older chemical technologies, however, the level of discomfort in combining the two can be difficult to tolerate.

The AFA Daily Rejuvenation program offers powerful exfoliation with minimal irritation, making it ideal to use between Fractional Laser Treatments depending on the time between treatments, patient tolerance and treatment protocols. Following any Fractional Laser Treatment, patients should wait for any erythema to subside before using their AFA Exfoliating Gel. The AFA Cream Cleanser and AFA Moisturizers can be used immediately.

Patients typically experience a ‘bronzing’ of their skin with Fractional Laser Treatments. Use of AFA between treatments may accelerate resolution of the bronzing experienced by patients, enhancing their results.

Once the series of Fractional Laser Treatments is completed and the skin has completely healed, AFA In-Office Peels can be used to maintain the treatment results as an AFA Peel will not irritate or dry out the patient's already sensitive skin. Naturally, the Daily Rejuvenation program should continue through the series of peels and beyond.

The patient should follow the normal Daily Rejuvenation regimen. However, they should discontinue use of the AFA Exfoliating Gel 24 hours prior to Fraxel® treatment.

After Fraxel® treatment, patients may experience mild erythema (3–7 days). During this time the AFA Cream Cleanser and AFA Moisturizers can be used. However, patients should refrain from using the AFA Exfoliating Gel until the erythema subsides. Thereafter, use of the AFA Gel will accelerate resolution of any bronzing of the skin from Fraxel® treatment.

The AFA Professional peels can be implemented for Fraxel® patients to help maintain optimal results. However, peels should not begin until approximately 2 weeks after the patient’s final Fraxel® Treatment.

AFA® Protocol for Botox ® Treatment

Botox treatments can dramatically improve the appearance of deeper wrinkles of the face, such as frown lines along the brow. While treating these lines will help make the patient look younger, treating the dull surface appearance will also help keep skin looking young and radiant. AFA can easily be combined with Botox Treatments to give patients softer, healthier looking skin.

The AFA program provides surface rejuvenation with minimal irritation around the Botox injection sites. While older technologies can irritate these sensitive areas, AFA will enhance the  patient’s skin rejuvenation results and help them achieve their goals. Patients will have visible improvement to skin's tone and texture using the AFA program with their Botox treatment.

AFA® Protocol for Filler Treatments

The use of the AFA program in combination with filler treatments will address both the deep set wrinkles and dull surface appearance of the skin, giving patients the softer, younger looking skin they desire. The advances with longer lasting, less reactive fillers have dramatically changed the aesthetic approach to deeper lines of the face. Optimal aesthetic results and patient satisfaction come from addressing the surface aging of the skin along with the deeper wrinkles. AFA is the ideal skin rejuvenation program to use in combination with any filler treatment as it provides this surface rejuvenation while minimizing the risk of irritation and complications around the injections sites.
