Growth Factors
Growth factors are proteins your skin produces naturally that provide a wide variety of benefits. They help repair damage from the sun and other external aggressors, optimize cellular health and help reduce inflammation.
Everyone has growth factors. However, as we age, growth factors naturally diminish in the skin, which can lead to breakdown in cellular function and visible signs of aging in the skin.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is another component found naturally in our bodies, but it’s also a powerful skincare benefit. Despite being an acid, it’s an extreme humectant, or hydrator. In addition, hyaluronic acid serums can help promote cellular turnover and affect how skin heals.
Hyaluronic acid, when used in skincare, can be either synthetic or natural, but synthetic HA molecules are too large to be absorbed in the skin. For natural hyaluronic acid, many companies aren’t cruelty-free, extracting HA from animal parts like rooster combs. Even many skincare companies that use snail-derived hyaluronic acid do so by agitating or harming snails so they produce mucin. Biopelle’s SCA Biorepair technology is 100% cruelty-free. Happy snails make happy skin.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants protect your skin against free radicals (pollutants, smoke, UV rays, stress and chemicals that can cause premature aging), and can also provide other skincare benefits, such as brightening, moisturizing and cleansing.
Primarily, antioxidants work to prevent something called oxidative stress — the damage that free radicals cause. This damage, which results in the breakdown of skin’s collagen and elastin, can take the form of premature aging, inflammation and hyperpigmentation.
Snail mucin from the C. aspersa snail contains antioxidant properties that can help as a preventive measure to address visible signs of aging.
