Growth factors in SCA Biorepair Technology help support fibroblasts — common cells which are responsible for the production of collagen and elastin — leading to plumper, more elastic skin. Fibroblasts also help the cells in your skin recover from injury from the sun or other external aggressors. Both growth factors and fibroblasts can age. However, when using SCA Biorepair on photodamaged skin or mature skin, fibroblasts proliferate at a much higher rate. This can help promote healing after photodamage or aesthetic procedures.
The antioxidant properties in SCA also help to inhibit free radical damage to the skin while hyaluronic acid helps to boost skin’s moisture levels.
SCA Biorepair Technology is produced from the secretion of the C. aspersa snail through a non-harmful patented process. Our snails are taken care of, never harmed and live in a sanctuary in the northern coast of Spain where they feed on a diet of lettuce and carrots.
This specific species of snail was observed by scientists to be able to heal its skin from burns and injury in less than 48 hours. The healing power of C. aspersa snail secretion was first shown to be clinically effective on humans with cases of radiation dermatitis following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. Burn victims experienced rapid recovery with this special snail secretion. Through this discovery, scientists found and patented a process to harness the benefits of SCA for cosmetics skincare benefits.
While snail-boasting beauty products are not new, the benefits and efficacy of these products vary greatly. While snail secretions contain nutrients that provide benefits to the skin, not all snail secretions deliver growth factor benefits.
Most snail creams and serums are formulated with snail secretion filtrate from the helix aspersa species of snail. The secretion of the helix aspersa is produced by movement and contains hyaluronic acid for hydration benefits. The secretion used in SCA is produced by the C. aspersa snail for protection and healing. It contains natural growth factors in addition to hyaluronic acid and is clinically proven to deliver reparative benefits to the skin.
No. Snails are never harmed in the creation of Biopelle products. We care for our snails in a sanctuary in the northern coast of Spain.
SCA KEY PROPERTIES
Snail secretions contain a multitude of elements that benefit the skin. While SCA is purified and processed in a patented fashion, much of the science is derived from the snail mucin itself. C. aspersa snail mucin in SCA is produced for protection and healing, unlike common garden snail mucin, which is for movement. The SCA ingredients include growth factors, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, which help repair damage to the skin and restore radiance.
Growth Factors
Growth factors are proteins your skin produces naturally that provide a wide variety of benefits. They help repair damage from the sun and other external aggressors, optimize cellular health and help reduce inflammation.
Everyone has growth factors. However, as we age, growth factors naturally diminish in the skin, which can lead to breakdown in cellular function and visible signs of aging in the skin.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is another component found naturally in our bodies, but it’s also a powerful skincare benefit. Despite being an acid, it’s an extreme humectant, or hydrator. In addition, hyaluronic acid serums can help promote cellular turnover and affect how skin heals.
Hyaluronic acid, when used in skincare, can be either synthetic or natural, but synthetic HA molecules are too large to be absorbed in the skin. For natural hyaluronic acid, many companies aren’t cruelty-free, extracting HA from animal parts like rooster combs. Even many skincare companies that use snail-derived hyaluronic acid do so by agitating or harming snails so they produce mucin. Biopelle’s SCA Biorepair technology is 100% cruelty-free. Happy snails make happy skin.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants protect your skin against free radicals (pollutants, smoke, UV rays, stress and chemicals that can cause premature aging), and can also provide other skincare benefits, such as brightening, moisturizing and cleansing.
Primarily, antioxidants work to prevent something called oxidative stress — the damage that free radicals cause. This damage, which results in the breakdown of skin’s collagen and elastin, can take the form of premature aging, inflammation and hyperpigmentation.
Snail mucin from the C. aspersa snail contains antioxidant properties that can help as a preventive measure to address visible signs of aging.
