Since sensitive skin is not a one-size-fits-all problem, it can be hard to make a list of no-nos. However, some common irritants include:

• Alcohol
• Sodium lauryl sulfates
• Physical exfoliants such as apricot kernels

If you have sensitive skin, your skin may easily burn, sting, turn red, be tight and dry, or become bumpy upon contact with certain skin care products and ingredients or even household products such as fabric softeners or cleaning products. 

Since your sensitive skin may be different from others, it’s best to go slow with new skincare products. Always patch test new products on a small area to see if you have a reaction. Also consider adding new products slowly, one at a time, so you can identify what product is causing irritation.
